The Miramichi is the eldorado for fly
casters from around the globe.
This is one of the world's preferred river systems where the mighty
Atlantic salmon returns in good numbers to renew his wedding vows.
Commercial salmon fishing is definitely a thing of the past along
the Eastern seaboard. The salmo salar, nowadays well protected,
can henceforth only be pursued by sport-fishermen with fly rod and
artificial fly.
The season begins in mid-April and lasts through Indian summer,
to the end of October. The main runs are per the end of June/mid-July
and again from mid-September through the golden month of October.
Highlight of any fisher(wo)men's life: (S)he who has drilled a wild
Atlantic salmon will not forget the ensuing surge of adrenalin.
The Miramichi, depending on the season, offers excellent sport for
sea-running brook trout, shad and even stripers.
In early spring, schools of smelt enter the river in great numbers.
